Description
In the decades following the Second World War, movements such as Arte Povera, Minimalism, and Conceptual Art profoundly transformed artistic aesthetics and the understanding of what art could be. This thematic tour introduces key characteristics of these influential movements from the 1960s and 1970s through works by Mario and Marisa Merz, Jannis Kounellis, André Cadere, Richard Tuttle, and Niele Toroni. Understanding the historical, societal, and economic developments of the time is essential to contextualizing these new aesthetic approaches. The tour concludes with “Zoo 78,” a sixteen-part photographic work created during the Cold War by Victor Burgin. As part of the Eva Felten Photography Collection, it features images from divided Berlin during the late 1970s.
