Description
Cy Twombly incorporated verses by well-known poets in the design of his “Rose” paintings: Ingeborg Bachmann, Emily Dickinson, T.S. Eliot, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Patricia Waters. He chose a poem for each painting and altered it in some instances to suit his own taste. The lines by Ingeborg Bachmann and Rainer Maria Rilke were available to him in translated form. The verses used by Twombly and their sources are listed in the flyer.
